A Message From Our Founding Director

Twenty-five years is an important milestone—but it is only the beginning of our next story.
— Mami Hioki, Founding Director

This year, Laurus International School of Science proudly celebrates its 25th anniversary—a milestone that fills us with deep gratitude and quiet pride.

Twenty-five years ago, Laurus began as an international preschool with a strong focus on science education. From the very beginning, we have held a simple yet ambitious belief: that education should empower students with science to think independently, communicate effectively, act courageously, and ultimately change the world for the better. What started as a small school with a big dream has grown into a vibrant learning community—shaped by curiosity, innovation, entrepreneurship, and an unwavering commitment to excellence.

Milestones That Shaped Us

In 2001, we opened our doors with a simple belief: that young learners deserve an education that opens doors to endless opportunity. Start early, and continue on this path.

From a single preschool classroom in Tokyo, we have grown into a full Pre-K to Upper Secondary international school, expanding across 11 schools and deepening our commitment to academic excellence and global citizenship.

Thousands of students have passed through our classrooms, each one supported to think critically, act compassionately and lead confidently in an interconnected world.

This is just the beginning. As we continue to expand into the final high school years, our first graduates in 2028 (?) will step forward as proof of what’s possible when education knows no boundaries.

Stories from our Families: Past & Present

When Canadian native Someya Inzinger relocated to Tokyo with her family, they faced a city full of international school options, but chose Laurus for its promise of genuine cultural exposure and academic rigor. Her then four year old didn’t only adjust, he flourished - learning Japanese dance, starring in the winter play and building literacy and science skills that how have him ahead of the curve.

For this expat family navigating Tokyo’s crowded education landscape, Laurus proved to be more than a school, it became home.
