Stay Curious, Keep Learning: Prof. Bawendi’s Words That Inspire Me.
On November 18, Yuika presented a bouquet to Prof. Bawendi, Nobel Prize winner in Chemistry, at the University of Tokyo. Prof. Bawendi, who received the 2023 Nobel Prize for inventing quantum dots, gave inspiring advice such as “Stay curious,” “Keep learning,” “Be flexible,” “Don’t give up,” and “Enjoy life.” Yuika was chosen because her father researches quantum dots, and she has strong interest in the Nobel Prize and speaks English well. In front of more than 300 people, she felt honored to take part in this special moment, which deepened her interest in quantum dots and the Nobel Prize.
IGCSE Year 10 Term One Reflection: Essential Tips for Academic Success and University Planning
December is a key checkpoint for Year 10 IGCSE students to reflect on Term One and plan ahead. Small adjustments now can shape A-Level choices, UCAS applications, and college admissions.
UK-bound students should begin building a co-curricular portfolio, research universities early, and connect current studies to future goals. US-bound students need to start tracking extracurriculars—leadership, sports, volunteering, arts, and competitions—since sustained commitment matters most.
Parents support by focusing on growth and resilience, not just grades. Reflection helps students strengthen study habits, prepare for exams, and build competitive applications. Identifying one growth area for Term Two—such as time management or subject mastery—lays the foundation for long-term success.
Exploring the Cosmos: Laurus Celebrates World Space Week with Industry Experts and Hands-On Learning
From October 4–10, Laurus International School celebrated World Space Week—an annual global event recognized in 95 countries that highlights the role of science and technology in improving life on Earth. With its strong focus on space science education and industry partnerships, Laurus provided students with a unique opportunity to explore the cosmos.
The highlight of the week was an interactive exhibition held on October 10 on the school’s Ad Astra floor, which is dedicated to astronomical sciences. Middle school students engaged with professionals from five organizations involved in space-related fields: Astroscale, Axiom Space, ispace, Electra Chiropractic, and the Earth Life Science Institute.
In addition to expert talks, students participated in hands-on activities exploring the scale of the solar system, deep-sky objects, constellations, and telescope usage. The event fostered curiosity and critical thinking, bringing space science to life through real-world connections and immersive learning.
University Applications Season – What Students and Parents Need to Know
October is a critical month for university applications, with key deadlines for UCAS (UK) and Early Action/Decision (U.S.). Students must prepare personal statements, predicted grades, essays, and recommendations. Strategic planning, clear communication, and emotional support from parents help reduce stress. International applicants should balance UCAS’s academic focus with the U.S. holistic approach. Staying organized and authentic is essential for success.
