Introduction

This winter, nurture your child's curiosity

Laurus Winter Camp is more than a chance to experience English. It is a programme where children discover the joy of inquiry through STEAM education, in an all-English environment.

Each day brings a new theme, with hands-on science experiments, art and craft, music and winter traditions. Guided by caring native English-speaking teachers, children enjoy themselves while picking up English naturally.

Each day, children receive an original picture book with audio, created to match that day's theme. They can keep enjoying it long after camp ends.

About

What Is a Winter Camp?

A "winter camp" usually means a short programme during the winter holidays where children take part in group activities. In Japan, some winter camps for school-age children are residential.

Laurus Winter Camp is a five-day day camp: children come from home each day. It is a fully English environment where they enjoy STEAM activities and learning built around a daily theme. They express themselves in English through art and craft, carry out science experiments, and receive an original Laurus picture book on that day's theme for every day they attend.

ENGLISH LEVEL

Can my child keep up without English?

It depends on your child's age, so here is exactly what to expect.

Preschool & K1 (ages 1.5–3)

Many children take part happily with the help of gestures and visual support. No previous English experience is needed.

K2 and above

Lessons assume children can communicate in basic English. As a rule, support in Japanese is not provided. The same applies to Y1.

If your child is in K2 or above and completely new to English, please talk to us before applying. We will be happy to work it out together.

NOTE

What is the difference between Winter Camp and Winter School?

"Camp" and "school" are sometimes used to mean the same thing, but at Laurus they are for different age groups.

Winter Camp is an activity-based programme centred on hands-on experiences, making friends and play. Children can join for one to five days, and it is for children aged 1.5–6 who are not yet in primary school.

Winter School is a programme of inquiry-based STEAM learning that combines lectures, activities and field trips. It runs by the week and is for primary school children (ages 6–11).

Both are day programmes, with no overnight stays.
