How Modern Cars Think: Exploring Intelligent Mobility with ITK Engineering

Laurus Frontiers Program | 2026

Event Overview

Partner: ITK Engineering Japan
Students: Secondary School Students
Theme: Automotive Engineering, Artificial Intelligence & Intelligent Mobility
Activity: Laurus Frontiers Guest Lecture – How Modern Cars Make Decisions

Bringing Learning to Life

How does a car know when to brake, recognise a pedestrian or safely navigate through busy traffic?

These were just some of the questions our Secondary students explored during the latest session of the Laurus Frontiers Program.

As part of our growing partnership with ITK Engineering Japan, we were delighted to welcome Dr. Adrian Krohn and Kevin Juyoung Lee to Laurus. Through engaging presentations, live demonstrations and interactive Kahoot! quizzes, students discovered how modern vehicles use cameras, radar, LiDAR and artificial intelligence to understand their surroundings and make safe decisions.

Every activity encouraged students to ask questions, test ideas and think like engineers.

Students also explored how engineering, software and artificial intelligence work together to solve complex real-world challenges. Rather than focusing on individual technologies, they discovered how multiple systems combine to make intelligent mobility possible.

Learning directly from industry professionals helped students connect classroom learning with technologies they encounter every day while gaining valuable insight into careers shaping the future of transportation.

Why It Matters

Experiences like this help students see how the subjects they study today connect to exciting careers and real-world challenges.

One of the key messages from the session was that innovation depends on collaboration. Modern vehicles are developed by teams of engineers, software developers and designers working together to solve problems, demonstrating the importance of teamwork, creativity and critical thinking.

Looking Ahead

Our partnership with ITK Engineering Japan is just beginning. We look forward to creating more opportunities for students to engage with industry experts, explore emerging technologies and experience how classroom learning can be applied to solving real-world problems.

Thank You

We are incredibly grateful to Dr. Adrian Krohn, Kevin Juyoung Lee, and everyone at ITK Engineering Japan for sharing your expertise and giving our students a fascinating insight into the future of intelligent mobility.

By bringing real-world engineering into the classroom, you inspired our students to think critically, embrace innovation and explore how technology can shape a safer, smarter future. We look forward to building on this partnership and creating many more opportunities for students to learn from industry experts.
